Biography

This Future's Stupid (formerly known as Those Fucking Snowflakes) picked a name that summed up everything they were in three simple words, taking back an insult used by Right Wingers and Daily Heil readers. But reclaiming an insult only works if people get the joke — and too often, people didn't. The name meant to skewer the right was too often mistaken for the right, which is about as far from the truth as it gets. So the band made the call to change it, swapping a name that was being misread for one that says exactly what it feels like to be paying attention right now.

With songs that are both musically and lyrically challenging, the band use their music as a vessel to vent frustrations and anger, never holding back and never hiding the meanings in metaphors. It was always about getting something off their collective chests rather than chasing the impossible dream of rock stardom — and that hasn't changed, whatever they're called.

The band started in 2019, releasing their debut EP U OK Hun?, four tracks including opener ‘Stop Being Dickheads To Each Other’, in December that year. Against the odds they were championed by Tom Robinson, received generous airplay on 6music, XFM and other stations, and eventually had music legend John Robb pick them up, releasing their third EP Everything Is Absolutely Fkkkkkkd through Louder Than War Records in January 2021. They even featured in the Daily Star (sadly, you can't control who writes about you though).

For a band with a name that couldn't be broadcast they did ok, but called it a day in early 2022 following the release of the single ‘That's Pretty Shitty Priti’, due to mental health challenges and life getting in the way. The band reformed with a new line-up in 2024, having relocated from Blackpool to Preston, and marked their return with a new single ‘No Sky For Rishi’. They're now performing again and releasing new material — under the name This Future's Stupid, a name that leaves absolutely no room for misinterpretation, hopefully.

Blackpool born and Preston based, This Future's Stupid are a unique and challenging band —

a vibrant clash of lefty noise punk and anger jazz. Like Joe Strummer if he had been dropped on his head as a child.

‘In these Dystopian times we demand dancing noisenik gatekeepers to find a way through the mire. Clear cut noise guerrillas to drown out the Trump/Johnson shouting and capital letters tweeting. We need a band that comes from the heart and soul of broken Britain. A band that accidentally sings for the lost generation.

It’s somehow fitting, then, that Blackpool, the town I grew up in has birthed the most important band of this moment. The tatty seaside town of my youth was never a hot bed of radicalism on the surface but its underside seethed with art, ideas and madness and Those Fucking Snowflakes are firmly part of that tradition.

Obviously they never thought that when they formed that they would be on the verge of being a BIG BAND. Their name gives that away and as they chuckle at the impossibility of persuading radio DJs to announce their full monicker they fire off another song that barbs the madness that we are in. Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings and goings, Brrrrrexit and macho platitudes are all neatly spliced by the band who celebrate being snowlflakes.

TFS are the high decibel meek who will internet the earth. TFS are the poison in the machine and the flowers in the dustbin...TFS not only have one of the greatest names for a band ever but are armed with an acerbic, acidic wit and a sharp sense of perception that sees a constant supply of sharply observed lyrics that slice up their fierce post punk shots that somehow sound like a kind of modern pop music - a pop music that has been redefined in the post Sleaford Mods/IDLES world.

TFS are also the most vital punk band around because they deal with the NOW! The songs are snapshots of these chaotic and strange times, TFS take the piss, they make a point and there is a method to their madness. TFS also deal out a riff collision that is thrilling and life affirming. TFS may be angry, TFS may even be making a point but TFS may have a dark sense of humour and great songs and they know that in the land of fools the jester is king…’

‘Great band name, perfect song title and a top tune. Energy, power, passion, commitment and a heartfelt plea for tolerance, Loving this song the more I hear it - a tune for our times.’

Tom Robinson - BBC 6music / Fresh on the Net

‘The punk resurgence is bringing a lot of exciting music and this is no exception. It’s like riding a rollercoaster of left wing frustration with all the adrenaline to match. Sure, it’s rough and raw but that’s all part of its charm and it’s certainly going to be exciting to see where this EP takes the Blackpool based band.’

Lauren Wilson – RGM ‘Reyt Good Magazine’

‘These Fucking Snowflakes are out there deploying 1000 volts through the civility of discourse. The shortest route between two points is often through something and TFS are a roadblock busting sonic juggernaut. This isn’t just an EP of worthy polemic with catchy song titles it is made up of five cracking songs, a roiling sea of heavy, heavy chords, swirling riffs and screaming vocals’

Paul Cook – Joyzine

‘Stop Being Dickheads to Each Other is an epic song for our times. It's like listening to John Lennon's 'Imagine', if it'd been written by  morons and recorded in a garage.  Needless to say, I love it!’

Tobi - Brash Magazine

‘An energising and invigorating blast of scuzzily  processed punk marrying new sounds with the old three chords and the  truth doctrine to make something totally fresh but in keeping with the work of current acts. A must hear debut single that’s up there with the best I’ve heard this year and I’m looking forward to see where they go next.’

Tom Girard - BBC Introducing, Channel Islands

‘It’s not my sort of thing usually, but I liked it, there’s something there’

Jason Williamson - Sleaford Mods

‘They do their utmost to somehow marry ‘People are People’ by Depeche Mode with the hectic and frantic post-hardcore of  Fugazi  The thing is it works. ‘Stop Being Dickheads To Each Other’ is a  positive and uplifting blast that is probably a bit oversimplified in  message but, at the same time, it’s a fairly solid message.’

Overblown

‘Channeling a potent blend of political punk, hardcore rock and math rock’

When the Horn Blows

‘One of  the bands currently telling the story of modern Britain. They’re giving it a pretty good crack themselves with the literally  infectious new single ‘Stop Being Dickheads To Each  Other’

Joyzine

‘A petulant riff and some hammer home  drums, some yelpings and sneers and (a healthy) anti-Tory rebellion, and we got ourselves a smirk worthy jam of thrashalong bare bones distortion. If your earballs don’t smile they need cleaning.’

Rats on the Run

‘An excellent vibrant clash of political punk, hardcore rock and math rock’

Punktastic

‘Essentially a list of non-existent sides in unnecessary conflicts and  prejudices, all punctuated with the mantra of "There's just people!". I listened to this song about 5 times in a row the first time I heard  it. Keep an eye out for debut EP, U OK Hun?’

Sapphire Bullets

‘Unrelenting drums, fuzzed up guitars and a throbbing bass carry the message on with the energy of Reuben, the attitude of the Fall and the style of Young Knives. This country is going to hell in a handbasket but let’s all go down together, eh?’

Listen with Monger

‘The band’s sound fits somewhere between the abrasive yet melodic nature of Gilla Band and Million Dead with Idles-style political wit thrown in  for good measure.’

Spectral Nights

‘Tune in for some frenetic and noisy punk by a band we will certainly hear more from.’

Fuzzy Sun

‘You should pack this horrible noise in and start a Kid Rock tribute band instead’
